Pet Peeve: Not capitalizing proper nouns

One of my jobs at Amazon is to send out manual return mailing labels to those customers that don’t have access to a printer. That process includes me getting the customer’s address so we know where to send the label (obviously).

What drives me crazy is when customers don’t capitalize their own names or the other proper nouns in their address.

When did people stop capitalizing their own names? Street names and cities I can maybe understand, but your own name? What has happened to our educational system? Why don’t people know that states are capitalized? That cities are capitalized? I mean, my goodness! It drives me insane.

What is one of your pet peeves?
