Metropolitan State College’s Production of Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd program and meat pies

My parents and I attended Metropolitan’s production of Sweeney Todd last night. My friend Dana is part of the backstage crew (she does mostly lighting) so we wanted to support her. I’ve never been able to attend one of the productions she’s worked on before so since I’m back in Colorado I thought this would be a great opportunity!

The musical was fantastic. For a college, it was wonderfully executed. The actors were impressive and pulled me into the story right away. The two actors who played Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Loveitt were amazing. Everyone was cast so well. They did the accents very convincingly.

Care for some Priest?

Before last night, I had only seen the movie featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (which I suggest as well). I’m so glad I was able to go to this production. This musical had more songs than the movie did. Everyone sang wonderfully with only a few complaints from me.

The set was gorgeous and the way the crew moved things around was pretty seamless. I have to give props to everyone who worked on this. I would tell any of my readers in Denver to go but the rest of the shows are all sold out. Yep, it’s just that good.

Plus, they sold “meat” pies at the front! How awesome is that?!
