Results of my acne medication

Last night I took my final Isotretinoin (aka Accutane) pill. I took the acne medication for 6 months. When I first began taking the medication, my acne was terrible. I’m going to share a few photos with you so that you can see the difference. And although it’s fairly embarrassing to see how horrible my face was, I believe it is important for those who have the same problem to be able to fully and confidently assess if Isotretinoin is right for them.

As you can tell, it was pretty bad. It was probably even worse than it looks. It took a couple of months before I started seeing real improvement but improvement did happen. During my time on this medication my skin and lips were really dry. I mean REALLY dry. Gene can confirm that at one point my lips made me look like I was a dead person.

I have to say, after those 6 months I am VERY pleased with the results. I have not had a pimple in more than a month (probably two months actually). My skin is not as dry and though my lips still are, they’re much better.

I do have some scars, however my dermatologist said they would fade even more after a couple of months. The medication may be expensive (also add on the costs of monthly blood tests) but it was DEFINITELY worth it. Just look below! Photos taken today, May 10, 2012.

Say hello to the new me! I’ll let you know if my face stays this awesome (or even better) next month. For right now, I’m thrilled and more confident than ever!

Go here for a two month update.

  1. yay! I’m so glad it work for you, Lauren. having bad skin is one of the worst things ever when it comes to having good confidence. my face scrubber (and being on bc again) helps my own skin a lot, but it looks no here as clear as yours.

  2. I’m glad it worked out so well for you! I’m on my second course since my acne recurred after my first – fingers crossed it’ll work this time 🙂

    1. I’m a bit worried my acne will come back after a month or two and I’ll have to go back on medication but I’m just going with the flow for now. Here’s to hoping that both of us will have clear skin for the rest of our lives!
