Gene’s parents, Lydia and Dave, got to come visit during the Christmas season! They visited us for a day, then headed to Virginia to see Gene’s sister, then came back here for two more days. Although I did have to work during their first leg here, I got to hang out with them in the evening.
They picked me up from work and we went to the Denver Zoo Lights! It was absolutely gorgeous. There were lights everywhere. On the trees, on the bushes. There were lights formed into animals. Some of them even “moved”. It started snowing while we were there, which made it more magical. Christmas songs played throughout the walk. You could get hot chocolate and churros too (they were expensive though so I’d bring my own goodies if I go again).
Most of the animals were away for the night but we did get to see a hippo, an elephant, and two rhinos. The tropical fish/snake/reptile exhibit was also open. Great place to stop and warm up your bones a bit before the last stretch of zoo.
After seeing all the beautiful lights we went out for dinner. We were going to try to find an Ethiopian restaurant but the GPS took us to some random building. So we found a Greek restaurant instead! I’m really glad we ended up there because the food was delicious. I’m afraid I don’t remember the name of it (I think it might have just been Greek Deli or Greek Food) but I think it was off of Colfax? Whatever, point is, it was good food and it was warm. We had gyros and salad and some kind of eggplant lasagna type thing.
We went back to our apartment after that and opened some presents! One of the presents I’m most excited about is a tent! This means that Gene and I are on our way to be able to go camping in the Rocky Mountains! Just have everything else to buy but then we’ll be set. 😉 Lol. I also got a gorgeous purple Egyptian cotton scarf. Lydia and Dave had gone to Egypt over Thanksgiving so it’s authentic! I wear it all the time, it’s just beautiful.
The pictures are a bit blurry but at least you can catch a glimpse of how beautiful the zoo was. I had a great time with them on the first leg of Lydia and Dave’s trip. I’ll post about the second leg later!
