Day 5: Movie Review: Despicable Me 2

On the 4th of July, Gene and I watched Despicable Me 2. I had such a fantastic time. It was a very enjoyable movie.

I had never really wanted to see the first movie. But after my coworkers told me how much they liked it, I agreed to watch it. I am so glad I did. Despicable Me is an awesome movie. It’s funny, has an interesting story, and is just very fun. I have seen Despicable Me three times, within the last year. So when I say that Despicable Me 2 was just as good, if not a bit better, then you know that this movie was wonderful.

I love the relationship between Gru and the girls. It’s so sweet and caring, you can feel the love between them. Although the girls aren’t a huge part of the story, they make enough appearances to keep me happy. Agnes is just as cute and adorable as she was in the first movie. She’s definitely one of my favorite characters. There is such a touching moment (among many) between her and Gru that makes my heart melt. Edith, the middle daughter, is just as goofy and funny as she was in the first movie. The writers do such a great job at giving all of the girls unique personalities.

The story was decent, a good addition to the first movie. There is a “twist”, if I can call it that, that was very interesting and to me was not expected. It did provide for a bit of scariness though, which is not always the best for a kids’ movie. There was one poor boy who could not stop screaming and crying during a few of the scenes, thankfully his mother took him out eventually.

As always, the minions were a fantastic part of the movie. Whoever thought of those characters is a pure genius. Really wish minions existed and that I had a few as my friends. They could make any movie better. I love their language, I love their personalities, I love the way they look.

The ending was quite satisfactory. I am content and happy with how the movie ended. I feel like it leaves enough room to add more movies if the writers and producers are interested. Also, I totally think that the minions (or the entire cast even) should get their own show. I would watch that everyday.

If you haven’t seen Despicable Me, you should watch it. And then go watch #2. Even if you don’t generally like kids’ movies, or CGI, give it a chance. Gene likes the movies well enough, and he’s fairly picky when it comes to that. My parents enjoyed the first movie as well.

And remember, “you should really announce your weapons after you fire them. For example, lipstick taser!”
