Sunday morning we got up early again and headed to Disneyland. We wanted to take pictures with some of the characters before we did anything else because we only got to see Goofy the day before. Many of the characters come out in the morning, when the park first opens, so we hung around near the entrance until we saw Donald Duck! Donald is Elisabeth’s favorite character, so we knew we had to get a picture with him. All of the characters are so nice. They are funny and caring without even talking. I give those cast members major kudos for being able to do that.
We saw Minnie right after Donald. Minnie is probably my favorite character. She’s so cute and pretty. I’m so glad we were able to get pictures with her. As we made our way to Minnie we passed by the Queen of Hearts, from Alice in Wonderland. It was so funny because she was right in the middle of the little square, but everyone was passing her to get to Minnie. I felt a tad bad, because she kept looking at kids and reaching out for them, but they’d just walk past without a second glance. I did eventually see one kid getting her picture taken with the Queen, so that’s good I guess.
After getting pictures with the characters we headed straight to the Peter Pan ride. I had wanted to go on it, so Elisabeth and Becky were kind enough to wait in line and ride with me. I believe it’s one of the more popular rides, so the line is generally quite long. So it was a great idea for us to go almost immediately after the park opened. We still had to wait, I believe 20 or so minutes, but at least it wasn’t an hour wait. I really enjoyed that ride. I remember riding it in Disneyworld when I was 9 so it was a nice flashback to my childhood. I have to say, they have come a far way in animatronics. I know I already mentioned that yesterday but my gosh I’m so impressed.
After Peter Pan we skipped on over to California Adventure where we rode the Radiator Springs Racers ride (Cars ride)…twice! We went in the single rider line so although we didn’t get to sit together, we did not have a huge wait. That was one of my favorite rides. Again, I really like the rides that twist you around and have minor drops.
We met up with Ariane and Joseph a bit later that day. We went on Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Star Tours with them. Those were all very fun to go on. Then we split up and they went to California Adventure and we stayed in Disneyland to watch a show called Mickey and the Magical Map. We took the train over there, which was so nice. We had been walking and standing a lot so being able to sit for a few minutes was such a lovely relief. The show was so much fun. They used screens and live actors, it was very creative. I liked the costumes that the female dancers wore. They were a bit steampunk-y, which was awesome.
Later we met up with Ariane and Joseph again where Elisabeth, Becky, and Ariane went on Screamin’ California, the roller coaster, and Joseph and I went on Toy Story Midway Mania. That was so much fun. Joseph is such a friendly person that I felt like I had known him for years. He was so easy to get along with that it made Midway Mania fun rather than possibly awkward. That ride is awesome. You get to shoot different targets on huge screens. The ride keeps track of your points and your accuracy percentage. There are five different games. I had a blast playing, and I got 220,000 points! I wish all of us had been able to ride it again but the timing just did not work out.
I believe it was after these rides that we went on the Tower of Terror.
I will never go on that ride again.
I absolutely hate that ride. I had never been on it, of course, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect but I was still a bit scared when we were waiting in line.
The ride was horrible. It’s not my thing. My backpack flying up in the air because we’re descending so quickly is not a good sign for me. I was so frightened during that ride that I couldn’t even scream properly. I do not know how children go on it. I am so glad it is over. I was shaking when I got out of the ride. I don’t regret getting on it, I am glad that I gave it a chance, I just will never get on it again.
After that ordeal we went on The Little Mermaid ride. Ariel was absolutely gorgeous during that ride. Both Joseph and Elisabeth pointed out how amazing her hair was, how it flowed in the breeze. And she isn’t even real! Yet again, animatronics in this place are fantastic.
We then went back to Disneyland to rest a bit and watch a parade. I got an amazing churro while waiting for the parade to start. The food in the Disneyland parks are quite good. Yes it is expensive, but I planned on that so it didn’t matter. The parade was a lot of fun. It was the Soundsational parade, and it featured Mickey Mouse, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, the princesses, The Lion King, and Mary Poppins.
I don’t remember when but eventually we split paths with Ariane and Joseph. Elisabeth, Becky, and I watched the President Lincoln show. Disney says that the animatronic Lincoln in this show is the most advanced animatronic in the world. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but I do have to say that he was very impressive. His fingers moved slightly when he was sitting. His motions, although a bit stiff, were still so lifelike. It is great that Disneyland offers that show.
We watched the fireworks shortly after that. Those fireworks were so amazing and beautiful, I teared up at them. I just felt so lucky to be at Disneyand and I felt so happy that I couldn’t help but cry a little. It was so magical, so perfect, so wonderful. That’s how we ended our day at the parks, it could not have been better.
