On Saturday, Gene and I went paddle boating on our lake. One of the reasons I wanted to move to my current apartment was that they let you take out paddle boats and kayaks and canoes all for free. So we finally took advantage of that.
We were the only ones out on the lake. The dock has very odd hours so it isn’t surprising that we were by ourselves. They’re only open on the weekends and Wednesday (I think). And they aren’t open for very long. Oh well, we had a good time.
I had not been on a paddle boat in years, I’d say at least 5. It was a great boat, I did not feel like I was going to tip over at all. It steered okay too. I wish my seat had gone back a bit more because my knees were sore afterward, but I believe that is my only complaint.
We tried to go see the pelicans that were hanging around the water but they flew off before we got too close. There is a lot of interesting wildlife around and in the lake. There are some gorgeous small white birds with yellow feet. You can barely see them in the picture to the right. There are also ducks and geese and birds.
We paddled around for 40 minutes before heading back. It was good timing too because as we were approaching the dock Gene saw some lightning. I want to go again at least one or two more times before they shut down the dock (not sure when that happens). Maybe next time we’ll try a kayak, who knows!
