Day 148. Mario 64: Footrace with Koopa the Quick

Thought I had forgot about Mario 64, hadn’t you? Well, I didn’t, it just took me some time to start playing it some more. I’m not a hardcore gamer, so it generally takes me time to play games.

So, Footrace with Koopa the Quick. This is the second star that I got in Mario. It took me three tries, which, I suppose is pretty good since I haven’t played in years. At this point I am still having issues with controlling Mario, although I am slightly better. The first time I attempted to race Koopa, I fell of the moving bridge and at that point had no chance. I still finished the race though, thinking that maybe he was slower than I thought he was. Nope, he was at the top of the hill waiting for me, gloating at this win.

The second time I actually made it part way up the hill but I fell down a decline and knew I wouldn’t be able to make up the time lost. This time I quit the level so I wouldn’t have to be humiliated again by the oversized turtle.

The third time I went a bit slower on my trouble areas, took the secret teleporter towards the top of the hill, and I made it before Koopa! It was a pretty good feeling.

Doesn’t make much sense why he’d give me a star just for beating him up a hill, but hey, I can’t complain.

And why in the world are there so many cannon balls just rolling down this hill? My goodness, there’s no one at the top who needs protecting. It seems a bit excessive if you ask me. 😉

So far I’m still enjoying the game and hope I can make my slow way to the end.

Second star in Mario complete!
