I am now at the end of my current 30 day fitness challenge. This month, I did not fully complete my challenge. There was about a week where I either did not do any exercise for a day or I did not finish all the exercises I was supposed to do for that day. I lost motivation for those span of days.
Although I am a bit bummed that I did not truly make my challenge, I want to be clear that I did not fail the challenge. As long as I have learned something and tried something, I have not failed. This is not a pass/fail kind of challenge. This is a challenge where I aim to find physical activities that I not only don’t hate, but that I enjoy. I listened to a podcast about two months ago about the best exercise a person could do. The littlest effort, the least amount of time, and the best outcome. While the woman did say squats were something everyone should do, she ended up saying that the true answer is anything that the person actually likes doing.
That really struck a chord in me, which is why that’s my long and short term goal. Every monthly challenge is me testing what exercises I like to do and think I can continue to do. And you know what? Exercises that I like today, I may not like a year from now. But that is perfectly fine, because then I’ll just do different 30 day challenges to see what else I like.
Improving my health and fitness is a lifetime job so I have to make sure that I can stick with it. That means I need to be flexible, I need to reevaluate my health, fitness, and goals regularly, and I need to have a good time. With that knowledge, I’m okay if I don’t complete every 30 day challenge. That allows me to look at what I did like during that month and I what I definitely didn’t like. I’m okay with going slowly and not rushing into weight lifting or running every day. Maybe I’ll get there one day, and maybe I won’t. But I’ll keep trying to stay active.
So those are some of my thoughts on health and fitness. Maybe it will help someone stay disciplined (because let’s face it, we can’t always be motivated) or become inspired. Maybe it won’t. Either way it’s good for me to get my ideas out there sometimes. 😉
You inspire and motivate me!!
