Today I volunteered at an event called The Global Leadership Conference. The conference was put on by an elementary school I work with and was for parents in the community. There were four different sessions including public speaking and effective leadership. We had free breakfast and lunch as well as free day care for elementary-aged kids. It was a conference that all parents should have wanted to go to, there were literally no downsides to it.
Although we did have over 80 people show up, the lead planner of the event had wanted 250 to 300 people. So…we have a ways to go. The day still went quickly and we were done by 2, which I thought was great. I myself got free breakfast and lunch and even took home an entire Little Caesar’s pizza so it wasn’t a total bust for me. I just wish that I didn’t have to get up at 5:50 am to help out. I’m not really a personal fan of getting up before 7 (if that), so that put a small damper on my mood.
I did get to speak a tiny bit of Spanish today, so yay for that. I’m realizing that I’m more rusty than I thought but I guess that’s what happens when you don’t speak it or hear it every day for almost two years.
So the conference was a success. No one got hurt or fought and parents seemed to enjoy it. I came home tired but generally content.
Later, in the evening, I had dinner with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. Always nice to catch up and get out of the house.
Tomorrow I’m going to relax and work on a few things and have a calm Sunday I think.
