Yesterday we went on an 8 mile hike on the edge of downtown Richmond. The hike took us into forest, along James River, and at one point walked on the edge of Maymont’s grounds.
The weather was AMAZING, I ended up hiking in a t shirt and still being hot for part of it. The trail was quite pretty, I liked the ivy covering the majority of the trees. There was a lot of mud but my new tennis shoes held up really well, no having to break them in!
I also liked finding the many mushrooms and fungus along the trail. It’s such a lovely and fun surprise to stumble upon all these different mushrooms. All hikers should be on the lookout for mushrooms, it’s so impressive how many different types there are. I’ll have to start a tally on how many mushrooms I see on each trail.
We ended the hike in about 3 1/2 hours by crossing the James River with a view of downtown Richmond right before sunset. It was such a great way to spend the warm day.
