S’mores poptarts

A few days ago I purchased some s’mores poptarts. I really like s’mores and a Poptart pack was on sale for $1 so I threw my hands up and said, “Why not?!” Sidney then suggested I could get the store-brand version for much cheaper ($1 for a four pack) and so we decided we would buy both and I would compare.

Can you tell which one is which?

Last night Gene and I tried them out while Sidney was playing a game. I toasted them, broke them apart, and tried a bite of each. The conclusion? I really don’t like either. The Poptart pastry was better but the filling in each tasted about the same. Both pastries almost tasted burnt, although neither were. The Poptarts one had more filling but that didn’t make it any better in my book. I couldn’t even finish half of either of them. Thankfully Gene ate his two poptarts as well as all my leftovers (although I did tell him he didn’t have to, they were cheap, I’m not going to force someone to eat something I won’t even eat).

I’ll stick with the classic strawberry, blueberry, or cinnamon Poptarts. And even then I can’t eat a lot of them. I think the real plan should be to make my own. My favorite part of a Poptart is the crust so if I can figure out how to make that with a tiny bit of strawberry filling, I think I’ll be golden. I’m bummed but not surprised that I didn’t like them, but they were a lot worse than I thought they would be. It was a cool idea but I don’t think it works. Oh well, at least I tried.
