Happy hour and D Bar

Yesterday after work I went to my first work happy hour. It was for one of my managers who has a birthday on Monday. It was very thoughtful of him to invite me, I was one of three people from our department he invited, so after debating it I decided to go. Thankfully there ended up being a few other people I knew who came so it wasn’t that bad. I ended up talking to a woman I had never met before but she was quite nice and we had similar likes (musicals!) so it was pretty easy to talk to her. The problem I had was that it was too loud in this restaurant. Why is every restaurant so loud? I was shouting to speak to her and that’s not a pleasant way to hold a conversation.

P1100531But I’m glad I went – as Gene told me, it’s good to be social with work people every once in a while. So even though I didn’t really want to go (it was scary!) it worked out just fine and I did enjoy myself.

Afterward I stopped by D Bar since I was right next door to it and grabbed two desserts for the housemates and I to try. I’ve been wanting to go to D Bar for quite some time, and even though it’s only a 5 minute walk from work, I’ve never been. The desserts were decently priced, only $5 each, and they were tasty. I got peaches and cream cheesecake and caramel brownie. I liked the brownie the best but that’s mostly because I don’t like cheesecake. I will definitely have to go back and try out some of their other desserts – maybe a once a month treat or something like that.
