Today has been an extremely busy day for me. After breakfast I biked to the community garden to water and weed. The tomato and pepper plants are doing really well from what I can tell. They’re growing bigger and the leaves are looking good. My chives and cucumber have still not come up, can I call it now? I’m thinking no chives or pickles for me this year, whether because the seeds were old or they washed away or some other reason, I don’t know. I’ll just have to try again next year.
I took a picture of myself at the garden but the sun was so bright that I closed my eyes. It’s not my fault that my sunglasses aren’t dark enough! I mean, maybe it is my fault, I am the one that purchased them. One of these days I’ll be going back to Costco to see if they can make the lenses darker because these sunglasses aren’t as good as my previous pair. I temporarily dyed my hair blue a couple of days ago thanks to Elisabeth lending me her dye, can you tell in the picture? It never really looked very blue, more a bluish gray in my opinion, and it’s been fading very quickly. What can I say, if I want real colored hair I’m going to have to bleach my hair and I’m not sure I’m quite up for that.
I worked in my own yard today too and finally finished setting up the drip irrigation in the front yard. It should start watering my plants at 7:30pm tonight. It took me maybe fiver or six hours total, over two days, to set up the irrigation just because I had completely messed it up when I tore out the garden fabric and then I put in more plants which meant I had to add more line anyway. But it’s done now, I hope. My hollyhocks are looking gorgeous, I adore that peach color they have, these plants are such troopers. They always get damage to their leaves, either by hail or bugs, but they continue to grow and flower. I can only hope to emulate them in my own personal life.
After working in the yard I started working on homemade ice cream and pie to bring to Kaitlin’s house tomorrow. I’m so excited to spend some time over there and eat good food. I tried out a new pie crust recipe for this pie and just threw it in the oven to bake. I can at least say that before baking, it looked quite delicious. A variety of berries with sugar always do look delicious, don’t they? The pie crust wasn’t quite as malleable as I had imagined but I predict it will still turn out okay. Pippin tried to be my helper as I prepped the fruit but he couldn’t figure out how to use the computer properly so he had to leave. I did some grocery shopping and cleaning as well and now I will relax a bit before working on dinner – chicken with balsamic vegetables!
